    Telecom and online sports betting

Telecom wants to offer online sports betting!

It's hard to believe, the concessions on the German market have been frozen, the legal situation is more than vague and Telekom wants to launch its own sports betting portal. The company takes advantage of a back door via the Austrian market and a partner with which Telecom wants to start on German soil. This is the Austrian Sportwetten GmbH (SW), which has been active in the sports betting business for more than 10 years.

DSW, which has not been active in the sports betting market to date, will offer other sports bets such as Formula 3 on the Internet under the tipp1.de brand in addition to the heavyweight football. "The condition is that it has to be professional sport," explained the Telekom spokesman.

Like 19 other companies, DSW has received a license for sports betting from the German regulator. However, the whole procedure for the concessions was put on hold due to objections from unsuccessful applicants. According to Telekom, DSW can still start in Germany because it has a concession in Austria, a neighboring EU country.
That's what the news says, it remains to be seen how the other sports betting providers will react to it!

AW: Telecom and online sports betting

And today came the next blow...

As early as the first quarter of 2015, bets are to be accepted via the internet portal tipp3.de. The focus is on football bets, but customers should also be able to bet on Formula 1 races and basketball games. DSW only wants to offer bets on professional sports up to the third division. The German sports betting market is estimated at at least 4,5 billion euros.
Legally, the providers have so far been in a gray area. After the European Court of Justice (ECJ) objected to the state gambling monopoly, Germany now has to reorganize the market. 20 sports betting licenses have already been granted - DSW also got a chance - but the award procedure is on hold due to lawsuits from large, inferior providers such as Tipico, Interwetten and Bet365. In September, the administrative court in Wiesbaden had forbidden the competent Hessian Ministry of the Interior to issue the licenses.
The management of the German Lottery and Totoblock (DLTB) reacted with sharp criticism to the plans of the former state-owned company Deutsche Telekom to offer sports betting on the German market in the first quarter of 2015. "Telekom wants to circumvent the legal regulations in Germany with a nice trick. This puts the partially state-owned group on a par with providers from tax havens, some of whom operate illegally on the German market. The German legislator has clearly regulated that in Germany only those companies may offer sports betting on the Internet that have a German license - and that has always been the attitude of the federal government and the federal states. Anyone who sets himself up and acts against the applicable law in this way can only be concerned with his gambling offer for business. We call on the federal government to intervene - especially since the federal government holds 14,3 and the state development bank KfW 17,4 in the shares of Deutsche Telekom", explain Michael Burkert and Peter Jacoby (leaders of the DLTB and at the same time managing director of Saarland-Sporttoto GmbH in Saarbrücken) the current legal situation.
    One can only say...

The time has come Telekom starts with tipp3.de

The state hasn't come to an agreement for years and Telecom is doing it through the back door, isn't that a hoax from their own country?

Today is the kick-off for tipp3.de - the fair and serious offer on the sports betting market. As of now, tipp3.de offers a purely internet-based offer for sports fans with a focus on football. But you can also bet on other exciting sports such as basketball or Formula 1. The new portal offers bets exclusively on professional sports, amateur and youth sports cannot be placed. With 64 percent, Telekom is the majority owner of the tipp3.de operator Deutsche Sportwetten GmbH (DSW) and stands for the motto "We make sport better".

"We are focusing on the growth market of sports betting," explained Matthias Schmidt-Pfitzner, Head of Digital Media at Deutsche Telekom. "We go into this business as a trustworthy online provider - with the highest focus on security, quality and customer orientation."

Österreichische Sportwetten GmbH (ÜSW) is a partner and second shareholder with 36 percent of DSW. „SW is part of the Casinos Austria Group and has more than 14 years of experience in offering sports betting in Austria – one of the most competitive sports betting markets in Europe. During this period, more than 140 million sports bets were processed professionally. The SW pays special attention to the areas of player and youth protection as well as measures to prevent and combat match-fixing. This wealth of experience makes „SW the ideal partner for Telekom.

Responsible gaming is of particular importance to Telekom. Targeted prevention is the focus. This includes concrete measures such as the mandatory setting of limits for deposits, stakes and losses during registration or participation in the "mentor" program, which reliably recognizes conspicuous gaming behavior and draws attention to it. It is also clear that children and young people are not a target group for tipp3.de. Participation under the age of 18 is not possible. For age verification, tipp3.de relies, among other things, on proof of age with an ID pass from Telekom. The ID pass ensures that only persons who have been successfully verified as of legal age can use the tipp3.de offer. In recent years, Telekom's proof of age has received positive reviews from the Youth Media Protection Commission (KJM) and the Self-Regulation for Multimedia (FSM).

    A simple and understandable product
With tipp3.de, the customer experiences sports betting in his own individual way. The selection of sports bets is diverse and at the same time clear. tipp3.de offers bets on popular sports such as football, ice hockey, tennis and basketball. Unique forms of betting such as the quick tip with an additional bonus and the simple yes/no bets offer a completely new approach to the world of sports betting. By placing a sports bet, following a sporting event becomes a particularly exciting experience. It's all about entertainment and fun, as well as showing off your expertise. The quick tip offers quick access to the sports betting world of tipp3.de and offers an extra bonus of 15 percent on the total odds. The pre-selection of sporting events and results can be bet or rearranged with just a few clicks. Simple, fast and convenient.

Instead of choosing from odds and special bets, questions are simply answered with "yes" or "no" with the "yes/no bet". The stake starts at one euro and even if the answer to the question pack is wrong, you still get double the stake back. The yes/no bet covers a wide range of betting opportunities, from entire Bundesliga match days to individual winter sports events.

Well, the whole thing was already foreseeable since the second quarter of 2014 -> Telekom enters the sports betting business.

There must finally be a reasonable regulation in Germany. This uncertainty and the constant back and forth. The whole gambling banter reminds me a lot of the procurement problems of the German Armed Forces.
