Which team will score the most goals, which player will win the next set in tennis, which Formula 1 car will be eliminated next? In betting shops and the Internet, amounts of money are not only bet on the final results, but increasingly also on events during a game or race. These live bets are now to be banned in Tyrol because they not only tempt you to make large bets and lead to high losses, but also harbor a particularly high potential for addiction.
"Since small games of chance have been banned in Tyrol, parts of sports betting have gradually developed into a substitute for it," complains Mair. Suddenly you can bet on any third division game from China and bet on which player will be fouled or yellow carded next. This has nothing to do with knowledge and skill. What counts is only luck and coincidence
A ban on live betting to prevent addiction is also being discussed in Upper Austria. In Vienna, on the other hand, such a move should not yet be an issue. When asked by the press, the office of the responsible city councilor Ulli Sima (SP) said that no information could be given on this topic at the moment.
