Online casinos - Schufa query?
In a phone call, almera drew my attention to the fact that certain companies have allegedly been asking the Schufa for inquiries about identity or age verification since 2020.
It's companies like LeoVegas, PlayCherry, GB Group Inc. or DigiMedia!
This can actually only be related to a verification. But that doesn't make any sense at all, because you also have to upload or send your ID for verification.
I think it's a joke to get this confirmed again by querying the Schufa. Especially if you can derive a connection to online casinos from this as far as the names of the query companies are concerned.
For one or the other, this could have a negative effect if you need a loan from a bank or something else and these queries are important.
However, I cannot answer whether this really plays a role and whether querying banks get this information for the identity or age verification of others at all.
The question also remains whether these are only querying companies that have applied for a German license. I haven't noticed anything like this with myself, but I haven't registered with casinos that follow German regulations in 2020 either.
What I find crucial, however, is that in principle there can be no consent for the companies to query the data at the Schufa.
Have you noticed anything similar? Just take a look for yourself and if that's the case with you, then you can tell us about it here.

Is everyone in Germany allowed to do a Schufa query? Basically only applies if there is a legitimate interest or not!

In principle yes, but where should there be a legitimate interest in a person who is, let's say, middle-aged, and who is also proven by their ID?
If you go to the bank today and need a loan, then logically you have to give your consent to the Schufa query.
With other service providers, for example when it comes to installment payments, I can imagine that this also happens without consent.
As long as a query is not visible, nobody knows anything about it. Difficult to judge what a gaming company is allowed to do and whether we have authorized it ourselves by accepting the terms and conditions. I can't answer it exactly, but I don't think it's okay to start a query without first checking with the customer and asking for permission.
Of course I can also imagine that many would not be enthusiastic about it and ask themselves why they doubt my age or my identity?
You have to look at all this from the aspect of gambling addiction and its specifications on the German market, which some are suddenly so picky about.
This is neither about loans nor about any installment payments.
There are also other means of confirming one's age or identity, which is already being done to some extent today, namely selfies in connection with ID cards.
Or you commission companies to carry out a verification. I think this is now totally exaggerated to do justice to it.

I've had similar experiences, yes. However, not in Germany. In my case, the credit check and creditworthiness as well as entries in the debt register led to me being given a more or less arbitrary nationwide permanent ban for all online casinos and offline.

in Switzerland it's another house number, I spent three years there myself and every year a new query was started without my knowledge! (Probably work-related!) But once you're on the list, it's not that easy to get out and as far as I can remember you were one of the ones in there who was more or less to blame for it stand!

But I don't - and I don't know why one/several casinos started creating queries and without my knowledge.

That was my question at the beginning, is anyone allowed to submit a Schufa request and do you then also get the information as an applicant, that would be fatal, any private person could go and ask. Hm, maybe I'll ask a legal advisor about that!

A private individual definitely cannot do this.

In general, anyone who provides information to the Schufa may also receive data in return. When you conclude a financial transaction, you usually sign a contract that contains a Schufa clause that entitles the company in question to obtain data about you from Schufa.
However, the extent to which the data is made available depends on which company makes the request.
In this way, banks, savings banks, credit card companies and leasing companies receive the full range of information that is stored about you. Other contractual partners only receive information if a negative entry has been saved.
However, apart from banks, savings banks, leasing and credit companies, other companies only receive the data that is of interest to you. The Schufa data can be viewed by the contractual partners of the Schufa after you have given your declaration of consent. Not all contractual partners have access to the same data.
